How many Premier Leagues have Arsenal won?

Arsenal are one of the most successful and storied teams in the history of English football. They have experienced a huge amount of success domestically, with 13 total First Division titles. But how many Premier League titles do they have?

How many Premier Leagues have Arsenal won? Arsenal have won three Premier League titles at the time of writing. These three titles came in 1998, 2002 and 2004. Arsenal have not won the title since the Invincible 2004 season, which saw them stay unbeaten in all 38 Premier League matches.

Arsenal have gone on a dry spell of trophies over the last decade, particularly when you compare them to the teams of the early days of the Premier League. A lot of people will forget that Arsenal won the Premier League three times, with all three of those titles coming within the first 12 years of the competition.

The Premier League began in 1992 when the First Division was renamed to the Premier League to help the marketing and appeal of the League. So when it comes to Premier League titles, Arsenal have three titles since 1992.

In terms of total First Division titles, Arsenal have amassed 13 First Division and Premier League titles combined, with 10 of those trophies coming before the league was renamed to the Premier League. Arsenal’s first four First Division titles came in the 1930s, with the team winning their last First Division title in 1991, a year before the Premier League started.

What years did Arsenal win the Premier League

1997-98

Arsenal’s first Premier League title came in the 1997-98 season. It was already a historic year for Arsenal even before the season started as this would be Arsenal’s 100th season of competitive football and the first with Arsene Wenger in charge.

Arsenal began the season in strong form, going unbeaten in their first 12 games, although half of these games ended in draws. The 13th game started a poor run, as Arsenal fell 3-0 to Derby. They would lose four of their next six games and this poor run continued towards Christmas, with Arsenal sat in sixth at the turn of the year.

But Arsenal went on a brilliant run from January onwards. They went 18 games unbeaten, which included 10 straight victories. This brilliant run helped to overturn a 12-point deficit to reigning champions Manchester United, securing Arsenal’s first Premier League title with two games to go.

Arsenal were able to complete the domestic double that same season, beating Newcastle United 2-0 in the FA cup final.

2001-02

Arsenal’s years after their first title usually ended in finishing second in the Premier League, usually behind Manchester United. But Arsenal had a strong squad and went into the 2001-02 season motivated, having signed Sol Campbell away from rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

They experienced some mixed form, losing their first home game of the season to a Mark Viduka winner for Leeds. They continued to be around the top of the table, including a big 3-1 victory over reigning champions Manchester United, with Thierry Henry scoring twice to overturn Paul Scholes’s opener.

It was another title-winning campaign where Arsenal just seemed to click into another gear when they got past Christmas. After Christmas, Arenal did not lose a game, drawing only three of the remaining 20 games and winning the rest. By finishing their season with a 13-game win streak, Arsenal secured their second Premier League title with relative ease, eventually finishing seven points ahead of second-placed Liverpool.

It became a historic campaign for various reasons. Arsenal managed to go unbeaten away from home and scored in every league game of the season. Arsenal lost only three times in the season, with Thierry Henry finishing as the league’s top goal scorer and both Freddie Ljungberg winning the player of the season.

Arsene Wenger was named Manager of the season, with Arsenal once again finishing the season with a domestic double, this time beating Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Cup final. While these teams’ accomplishments are impressive, they do not massively stack up to the most recent Arsenal team to win the Premier League.

2003-04

Even if you have pretty much no knowledge of the Premier League, the majority of people will have heard of the Arsenal Invincibles. This 2003-04 team is one of the best in Premier League history. The season was set up by Arsenal securing the futures of Patrick Viera and Robert Pires, bringing a lot of stability into the season.

This stability led to Arsenal producing one of the best Premier League seasons. Arsenal went the entire season without losing in the Premier League. They were so good that throughout the entire season, Arsenal never dropped below second in the League, spending the large majority of weeks at the top of the table.

At the end of the season, Arsenal had racked up 26 wins and 12 draws, becoming the first and still the only Premier League side to go undefeated in a season. It is an accomplishment that I would be surprised to see repeated in the future. Arsenal’s style of play was at times critiqued, but it produced some brilliant results.

What must have made the title even sweeter is that Arsenal were crowned champions at White Hart Lane, in front of the Tottenham supporters. Arsenal’s Invincibles team are known for having some of the best players in Premier League history.

Thierry Henry won the Premier League Player of the Year award for the second year in a row, with more than half of the PFA Team of the Year being Arsenal players. For his contributions, Arsene Wenger won PFA Manager of the year.

How many points did Arsenal Invincibles get?

The Arsenal Invincibles team of 2003-04 was one of the best Premier League teams of all time. In total, they amassed 90 points in the season. These points came from 26 wins and 12 draws. The quantity of draws is something that a lot of people count against the team, but it is still an incredible achievement to go undefeated.
