How many Premier Leagues have Manchester United won?

Despite a lack of a league title for almost a decade, Manchester United are still one of the most successful football teams in English football. They have won countless trophies and dominated the league. But how many Premier Leagues have Manchester United won?

How many Premier Leagues have Manchester United won? Manchester United have won 13 Premier League titles. In total, they have won 20 First Division titles, with 13 of them coming since the league has been known as the Premier League. Their first title win came in the inaugural 1992/93 Premier League Season and their final one coming in the 2012/13 season as Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager.

Manchester United are the most successful team in Premier League history. This is down to them winning 13 titles since the First Division of English Football became known as the Premier League. Manchester United actually won the very first Premier League title in the 1992-93 season.

Their Premier League success has been overshadowed slightly by a very disappointing last decade. Manchester United’s last Premier League title was in 2012-13. In that time they have finished second twice, but they were never really close to the title in both seasons.

What years have Manchester United won the Premier League?

1992-93

Manchester United actually won the very first Premier League title. With Sir Alex Ferguson in charge, United were not always in pole position to win the title, sitting in 3rd with just seven games to go. But the team won their final seven games to finish 10 points ahead of second-placed Aston Villa.

1993-94

After winning the first Premier League, Ferguson’s team put in a comfortable performance where they were never really challenged for the title. A draw in their third game put them into 3rd in the table. After that result, United topped the table for the entirety of the season, eventually finishing eight points ahead of Blackburn to complete a domestic double.

1995-96

Their previous campaign was hurt by Eric Cantona’s eight-month suspension, but the 1995-96 season was the first that saw the class of 92 show their quality. It was a very good title battle with Newcastle, with United being second for the majority of the season.

But a 1-0 win at St James Park turned out to be crucial as United would go on to secure the title with one game to go, beating Nottingham Forest 5-0. It was another domestic double for Ferguson’s side, with players like Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and David Beckham having their breakout campaigns.

1996-97

In United’s fifth Premier League campaign they were able to secure their fourth title, despite a very poor start to the season that include three straight losses to leave them in sixth at the end of October. But after those three losses, United would only lose two more games in the season, getting to the top of the table at the end of January and never letting it go.

Their league success helped as United failed to make the final in any other competition that season, with new signing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being the standout performer.

1998-99

This team is considered one of the best in Premier League history, despite winning the title by just one point. They finished the league season a single point ahead of Arsenal, thanks to United going unbeaten after Christmas in the league. This team is so well known as it is the only treble winners in Premier League history, winning the Champions League and FA Cup that same season.

1999-2000

While United would not repeat their success outside of the league, they were able to defend their Premier League title. It was a slightly more comfortable campaign as they were always close to the top of the table, finishing the season with eleven straight wins, scoring 37 goals in those games.

2000-2001

The 2000-2001 team became the first and only team to win their third Premier League title in a row. It could have been a record-breaking season, but United lost their final three games after the title had already been secured easily. They ended the season 10 points ahead of Arsenal, only spending four matches outside of 1st the entire season.

2002-2003

After failing to win their fourth title in a row, Manchester United had reloaded by adding Rio Ferdinand from rivals Leeds for a record fee. Ferdinand was crucial in creating the league’s best defence, with Ruud van Nistelrooy handling the majority of the scoring. Another unbeaten run after the turn of the year overturned Arsenal’s lead at the top and eventually led to United winning the title by just five points.

2006-07

After somewhat of a dry spell considering the high standards of United, they returned to the top of the table in 2006-07. It was a new era for the Manchester United team, led by Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edwin van der Sar. It was the attack which got United to the title, scoring 19 more goals than second-place Chelsea as the red side of Manchester won another Premier League title.

2007-08

They would repeat this feat a year later and it was this season was the one which turned Cristiano Ronaldo into an international superstar. It was a brilliant title fight throughout the season against Arsenal and Chelsea. Despite losing to the Blues with two games to go, United would claim the title on the final day of the season thanks to a 2-0 win over Wigan. It was another United season accompanied by a Champions League title.

2008-09

United would win their second threepeat of Premier League titles, mainly thanks to a solid defence and star-studded attack. Liverpool would finish the season four points behind the champions, and it helped to make up for a disappointing Champions League final loss.

2010-11

This title was really made by the incredible form at Old Trafford, with United going undefeated at home, which made up for their struggling away form. But it was still enough for a comfortable league title win, nine points ahead of Chelsea.

2012-13

A year on from the Aguero goal, United would claim their revenge with a brilliant campaign, spurred on by the signing of Robin Van Persie. He scored 26 times in the league as United finished 11 points ahead of their cross-town rivals, making sure to not leave the title up to the final day of the season again. This would be Sir Alex Ferguson’s final year in charge of the storied club. He had won 13 of the available 21 Premier League Titles.
