Paul Mullin Goal Record

Paul Mullin is a goal machine. The Wrexham striker has been banging goals away at such a rate that he’s even started to form a bromance with Wrexham co-owner and Hollywood A-lister Ryan Reynlods.

For Wrexham In the 2021-22 season, Mullin played 44 matches and scored an impressive 32 goals in all competitions. This meant Mullin scored a goal for about every 120 minutes of football he played.

This scoring bloom at Wrexham didn’t come out of nowhere, the previous season while at League Two Cambridge United he has been equally as prolific, earning him a big money move to FX TV’s Welcome to Wrexham real life football club Wrexham AFC.

Below is a detailed breakdown of Paul Mullin’s Clubs, Games and Goals. All numbers refer to all competitions played that season.

Paul Mullin was playing in League Two for Cambridge United in the 2020-21 and had a fantastic season scoring goals. Mullin put away 31 goals in the league and scored a goal every 127 minutes. Mullin also picked up two goals in the EFL Trophy, bringing his goals across all competitions to 34. This made Mullin the top goal scorer in League Two, this was 12 goals more than his closest rival. This form spilled over when he got his move to Wrexham.

In the 2018-19 season Mullin was playing for Tranmere Rovers in League One. He scored only 4 goals in  22 games. Mullin started the season next season, 2019-20, still playing for Tranmere Rovers, Mullin only scored three goals in League One which meant that Mullin had scored just 1 goal every 301 minutes he played. Due to this lack of goals, Mullin was sent on loan to League Two Cambridge United. Mullin scored two goals in six games, which was a goal every 222 minutes. Mullin also picked up one goal in the FA Cup.

These kinds of numbers were typical for Mullin’s goal scoring record in his career to this point. It was only when he signed a 1 year contract with League 2 Cambridge the next season that his form in front of goal took off.

Despite Cambridge being keen to keep him and rumours of offers from League 1 and even Championship teams, Mullin opted to drop down a division to play for National League Wrexham. This didn’t mean a pay cut though, as his £4,500 a week salary is the highest in the national league by some way.

Mullin has paid them back in spades, after signing another year extension to play for Wrexham in the 2022-23 season, he has set about his work. Scoring 28 goals in just 33 games so far this season.

Wrexham can afford to pay Mullin this money due to their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The Hollywood double act bought Wrexham AFC for £2 million, completing the takeover on February 9 2021. They have invested millions into the club so far, changing the vibe of the entire town. Much of this has been captured in the highly popular TV show, “Welcome to Wrexham”. The name of this TV show captures the spirit with which Rob and Ryan have approached their ownership. They have been welcomed into the town with open arms and have set about trying to bring joy to the long suffering Wrexham town fans.
