What Premier League team has the biggest capacity?

With the Premier League being one of the biggest football competitions in the world, a lot of fans want to watch the games in person. Premier League teams have big stadiums, so which is the biggest?

What Premier League team has the biggest capacity? Manchester United has the biggest stadium capacity in the Premier League. 74,310 is the capacity of Old Trafford, more than 10,000 more than any other team’s stadium.

Being one of the biggest clubs in the world, it can’t be too surprising to hear that Manchester United are the team with the biggest stadium capacity at home. Old Trafford is one of the biggest stadiums in the UK and when at full capacity it can fit 74,310 people which is by far the highest currently in the Premier League.

Tottenham are the closest Premier League team in terms of stadium capacity thanks to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This new ground has a capacity of 62,850, second in the UK. Manchester United are one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world and so it is no surprise that they have the biggest stadium in the Premier League.

Old Trafford is also the second biggest stadium in terms of capacity in England. Wembley is the only football stadium in the country that has a higher capacity, with Wembley able to seat 90,000 when at full capacity, over 15,000 more than Old Trafford.

What Premier League team has the smallest capacity?

In the 2022/23 season, there are quite a range of stadiums throughout the league. Some of the teams who do not have the money from a sustained period in the Premier League have not been able to increase their capacity and there are certainly some smaller stadiums in the Premier League.

Bournemouth have the smallest capacity currently in the Premier League, with the Vitality Stadium having the lowest capacity in the Premier League. When at full capacity Bournemouth’s stadium can seat 11,307 fans which are by far the lowest in the Premier League, with a lot of away fans not enjoying the trip down to Bournemouth.

Bournemouth have a stadium which has almost 6,000 fewer seats than the second lowest capacity stadium in the Premier League which is actually Brentford. Brentford’s Community Stadium has a capacity of 17,250, the second smallest in the Premier League behind Bournemouth.

What is the 2nd biggest stadium in the Premier League?

It is pretty common knowledge that Old Trafford is the biggest stadium in the Premier League, but not a lot of people know what the 2nd biggest stadium in the Premier League is.

The brand-new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is currently the 2nd biggest stadium in the Premier League. It has a capacity of 62,850 which is the second highest in the Premier League only behind Old Trafford. This is a massive increase in capacity compared to Tottenham’s old stadium.

Tottenham decided to move to the new stadium as part of the long-term planning for the future of the club. Their previous stadium was only about half the size of the new one. Tottenham fans will have also been pleased that the new stadium meant they overtook north London rivals Arsenal who had previously had the 2nd biggest stadium in the Premier League.

Anfield Capacity

Anfield is a Premier League stadium that has gone through a huge amount of change in its history. Despite being the home of one of the biggest clubs in England, it is certainly not the biggest stadium in the country.

At the time of writing, Anfield has a capacity of 53,394, which has been the capacity since 2016. 2016 was when the extension of the stadium was finished and took the capacity to what it is at today. However, this figure is going to increase to start the 2023-24 season.

The new Anfield capacity will be 61,000 at the start of the 2023-24 season. This is because the Anfield Road Stand is being redeveloped and will be finished in time for the start of next season. This is what will increase the capacity of the stadium.

Why is the Anfield pitch small?

One of the odd things about Liverpool’s ground, Anfield, is that it has slightly different dimensions to a lot of other pitches in the Premier League. The pitch is 101m long and due to this Liverpool cannot host international competitions due to the pitch being 4 metres shorter than allowed by UEFA.

The Anfield pitch is small because the stadium is quite historic and the stands are incredibly close to the pitch. Football pitches have gotten ever so slightly bigger over the last few decades, with a lot of Premier League pitches being 105m long which is how long most are in UEFA competitions.

Liverpool are unable to make the pitch any bigger because the stands are incredibly close to the pitch. There is not really any space to safely make the pitch any bigger as there needs to be a bit of run-off between the pitch and the stands for player safety as well as space for stewards to be during games.

So the Anfield pitch has to remain the same size that it has been for decades, being slightly smaller than a lot of other Premier League stadiums.

Biggest football stadium in the UK?

There is an easy answer when you consider what is the biggest football stadium in the UK. Wembley Stadium is by far the biggest football stadium in the UK. What some younger football fans don’t know is that the current Wembley Stadium is considered the new Wembley, having been built on the site of the old Wembley Stadium which was demolished in 2002-2003.

At full capacity, the stadium can host 90,000 people for a football game, with the record attendance at a football game being 89,874 which was actually a game between Cardiff and Portsmouth in 2008, just a year after the stadium was opened. The new Wembley is by far the biggest football stadium in the UK, with no other stadium getting close.
