Who scored Chelsea’s first goal?

Chelsea FC are a football club with a huge amount of history. They have been around for more than a century, so who scored the very first goal for the club?

Who scored Chelsea’s first goal? Scottish international John Robertson would score Chelsea’s first-ever competitive goal, scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over Blackpool in Chelsea’s first-ever season. The game was played on 9th September 1905 and Robertson found the net in the 80th minute.

Chelsea were founded on the 10th of March 1905, the team’s first competitive season was the 1905-06 season. In Chelsea’s first-ever competitive game, they were unable to score and travelled up to Blackpool for their second game.

It was actually player-manager John Roberston who scored the 80th-minute winner which became Chelsea’s first-ever competitive goal. Robertson had been hired to be the team’s first player-manager as he was coming towards the end of his career. Robertson actually only scored seven times for Chelsea, but his first for the club was also the team’s first competitive goal.

Robertson had a good season with Chelsea as player-manager, leading the team to third in the Second Division which was just one place off of promotion. He began the 1906-07 season in the same position and Chelsea got off to a good start.

In November of 1906, they were in third and looking likely to be promoted at the end of the season. Despite that, he decided to resign. It ended up being a good move for Chelsea as they were promoted at the end of the season under new manager Williams Lewis.

After leaving Chelsea he became the player-manager of Glossop, a team that was playing in the same division as Chelsea. He was unable to get them promoted and so left the team to become the reserve team manager at Manchester United.

The former Scottish international finished his managerial career at MTK Budapest where he spent two seasons. After 1913 he would not take another job in football, with Robertson passing away at the age of 57 in January 1935.

Who scored Chelsea’s first Premier League goal?

Chelsea have been in the Premier League every season since the league was created. Due to that, they were in the league’s very first season as well. So who scored the team’s first goal in the newly created Premier League?

Striker Mick Harford scored Chelsea’s first-ever Premier League goal in the team’s first ever Premier League game. It looked like Chelsea’s first-ever Premier League game would end goalless as they could not break down the Oldham Athletic defence for over 80 minutes.

That was until Harford, who had only been signed to the club a couple of weeks prior to the start of the season, found the net in the 84th minute. This was the first time that Chelsea scored in the Premier League. The goal itself was nullified by Nick Henry’s equaliser two minutes later.

You would have thought that having scored Chelsea’s first-ever Premier League goal, you would probably go down as a Chelsea legend. But Harford actually had a very short Chelsea career despite being the team’s best scorer when he was there.

With only a few months left of the season, Chelsea sold their top scorer to Sunderland for £50,000 less than they had paid for him. It was an incredibly surprising move considering he was the team’s top scorer at the time that he was sold.

Harford would be unsuccessful after this move, finishing off his career with Wimbledon before retiring in 1998, having enjoyed a career than spanned over 20 years. So despite scoring a historic goal for the club, he never became a Chelsea legend.

Who scored Chelsea’s first Champions League goal?

Chelsea have had a huge amount of success in the Champions League and they have been led by some incredible goal-scorers through that success. Despite that, it was an unfamiliar name who scored the team’s first-ever goal in the Champions League.

Chelsea’s first game in the Champions League was in qualification for the group stage when they faced Skonto Riga in the Third qualifying round. In the first game, Chelsea initially struggled to break down the Latvian side, failing to score in the first hour.

But it was Nigerian left-back Celestine Babayaro who scored the first goal of the game. This was the first of three goals that Chelsea scored in this game, more than enough to take them through to the first group stage of the Champions League. It means that Babayaro was the first goal-scorer in the Champions League for Chelsea.

In total, Babayaro played over 200 times for Chelsea, making 132 appearances in the Premier League and being part of some great Chelsea teams. With the Blues, he won the FA Cup, UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the Charity Shield. Having lost his position later in his

Chelsea career to Wayne Bridge, he moved to Newcastle in January 2005.

Babayaro finished his career with Newcastle, after failing to play a game for LA Galaxy in an unsuccessful spell with the MLS side. But he still holds a massive record in Chelsea’s history.

Who scored Chelsea’s first Champions League group stage goal?

While Nigerian left-back Celestine Babayaro is the first player to score a goal for Chelsea in the Champions League, his goal came in the Third Qualifying Round, not the group stage. It was a different defender who scored the club’s first Champions League group stage goal.

In the club’s first Champions League group stage they drew their first game 0-0. While 2-0 down in the second game Chelsea won a penalty. This was slotted away by centre-back Frank Leboeuf. Despite being a centre back Leboeuf was known as a brilliant penalty taker, scoring 89 goals in his League career.

This penalty may not have been enough for Chelsea to get anything out of the game, but it did become the club’s first-ever goal in the Champions League group stage. Chelsea fans will be familiar with the scorer as he made over 150 appearances for the Blues, winning two FA Cups with Chelsea.
